Recently I was lucky enough to spend some time at this pretty little cove and knowing that it was going to be good weather I decided to take some art materials with me. I had already prepared a concertina book some time ago, made from wallpaper lining paper, pasted with some scraps of dressing making tissue. I also took the whiteness off the pages a little with some gesso and a teabag swipe. The cover was made ahead of time too, waiting for a beach opportunity.

I made both sides of the book while sitting on the beach, using a bamboo dip pen with ordinary Quink ink and then Neo Colour II crayons to colour, which I activated with water. One side was a rather loose picture of the bay itself and then the other was some sketchy drawings of the beach flora – rock campion, sea mayweed and rock samphire.
