When I was teaching my first workshop, The Midas Touch, I made samples to demonstrate the various stages of the technique. I taught that particular workshop many times, so I have a stack of part realised samples that have never been stitched. I decided to work on this one recently as it seemed a good base to add lots of embellishments and use up some of my bead stash. Although the base is turquoise blanket I have obviously used black and orange to contrast which is really unusual for me. I don’t like black! We have no black furnishings in our home, I never wear black and I hardly ever use it in my textile work. It seems to work here and I have overlaid the piece with black net, which adds to the rusty feel and compliments the metal embellishments, left over from another project.
