I have taken hundreds of photographs on our coastal walks, but so many pictures of the pretty pink thrift flowers which scatter the paths in early summer. I love the way they cling to the cliff edges like a little pink frill.
In my sketchbook I have prepared a piece to be used for an upcoming workshop, when I need to make a staged sample on a map background. Brusho background, with the thrift basically pink blobs of acrylic ink with some darker paint stamped on top with the corded button you can see in the foreground. It’s been laying on my worktable for a couple of years, waiting for me to throw it into a dye bath or colour it with some silk paints, but instead it made a perfect stamp. While the paint was wet I sprinkled with some embossing powder – a small section shown below.
